City branding

A fresh new branding washed up on the shore for the city of Blankenberge!
The aim was for Blankenberge to appeal to a broader group of people, especially young adults. To do so, I researched what Blankenberge is really about. And that is embracing the proud differences and contrasts in culture, nature, and people, while tying them together as one unified community.
Think about the beach with it’s dunes in contrast to the polders, the sparkling city centre and the quieter streets of Uitkerke, the tourists filling the crowds during the summer while the locals come back together during the winter, the swimming seals and the flying birds, the french speaking and the dutch speaking, the ones that were born here or others that washed up. So many differences ultimately united us to define our warm, proud and loving neighbourhoods.

To achieve that, I opted for a layered risoprint inspired design. The different coloured layers represent contrast and diversity, but the full picture, with all layers on top of each other, brings unity and coherence. This means that even if you do you, you still belong in the community!
